We have two kids and Homes are going for about $126,500 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Kokomo sits at 677.7 per 100K. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thanks for reading. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (South) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much reasonable but now it's tough.

I've lived in Highland for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- The school system scene is tough
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in engineering. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
