Hey folks, Crime rate is something to consider -Kootenai sits at 90.6 per 100K. Homes are going for about $306,200 on average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 12 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Sunset area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
