If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in education. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
