Hey, I work in tech and You can expect to pay around $1,661 for rent here. The median home value here is around $302,200, which seems about average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Should I be concerned?

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Vietnamese places. it was the best decision I ever made.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 55, moved here 12 years ago from Austin. I've lived in The Heights and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited public transit options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $70K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
