Why I chose Kyle over bigger cities

Hello, The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Thai places. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 50, moved here 9 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Highland and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Property taxes are high
3. The school system situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
