Is La Grande walkable?

Hello, Homes are going for about $244,200 on average. You can expect to pay around $970 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Let me know your thoughts. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I've lived in Sunset for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- The community vibe scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 13 years. Moved from Atlanta for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 1 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Cedar Grove area are average. Kids love it here.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much pricey but now it's excellent.
