La Grange in the winter -how bad?

I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,679/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $582,600, which is pretty steep. The unemployment rate is 1.4%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 15,999 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Would love some local perspective. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 33, moved here 14 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Greenfield and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in tech here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is better than expected. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Came here for work and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The dating scene is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
