Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 9 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The dating scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
