What to expect moving to La Huerta?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm retired and It's a a small town city with about 1,673 people. The median home value here is around $421,600, which is pretty steep. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I wrong here? The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I work in education here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is better than expected. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The public transit is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Bought a house here in 2021 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 2 years. Moved from Charlotte for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is solid - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Far from beaches/mountains. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely tough and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Riverside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
