Unpopular opinion about La Marque

Longtime lurker here, I relocated for work and Homes are going for about $189,400 on average. The median home value here is around $189,400, which is actually reasonable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Chicago about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The safety is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'm a HR manager and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much pricey but now it's challenging.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
