I've been here for 5 years and The median home value here is around $738,800, which is pretty steep. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in South for 13 years. Moved from San Diego for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited entertainment options. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much competitive but now it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a real estate agent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is tough and there's always something going on.
