Hey, The median home value here is around $738,800, which is pretty steep. With a population of 60,835, La Mesa is a smaller city. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What do you all think? Thanks in advance! Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'm a teacher and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

I'm a data analyst and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The cultural scene is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Nashville about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in West for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- The job market scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Midtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- The nightlife scene is average
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
