First post here. I'm single, late 20s, and Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $763,200, which is pretty steep. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I wrong here? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to San Diego it's solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 1 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Nashville about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Hope this helps!.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..
