La Mirada job market vs Houston

So, Military spouse here. Rent is about $2,052/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $763,200 on average. Median household income is $110,177, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 46,945 people. The median home value here is around $763,200, which is pretty steep. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- The healthcare scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
