Raising a family in La Mirada -thoughts?

First post here. I relocated for work and With a population of 46,945, La Mirada is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $763,200, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -La Mirada sits at 176.6 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Low crime in most areas
- Walkable downtown
- Active local events

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Not enough green space
Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much competitive but now it's underrated.

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Came here for family and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The school system is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
