Anyone else feel this way? I'm a teacher here and Rent is about $889/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 22,125 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Would love some local perspective. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 14 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in West for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- The weather scene is tough
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..
