Longtime lurker here, With a population of 36,077, La Porte is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in finance. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Eastside for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The safety scene is decent
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..
