Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. Poverty rate is 9.6%, which is pretty low. With a population of 36,077, La Porte is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $217,100, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Does this match your experience? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Moved here from LA about 9 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to community vibe but Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Pittsburgh it's tough.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.
