La Puente quality of life -am I missing something?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $1,788 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Thoughts?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 4 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I work in legal here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is improving. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The cost of living is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 44, moved here 3 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in South and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The dating scene situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in West for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- The traffic scene is decent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
