Raising a family in La Puente -thoughts?

So, I'm a remote worker and Rent is about $1,788/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,788 for rent here. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development

Cons:
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
- Chain restaurants dominate
What do you all think? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 7 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 6 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 51, moved here 13 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in West and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The housing market situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The pet-friendliness is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..
