Raising a family in La Verne -thoughts?

Longtime lurker here, We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $104,565 in La Verne. Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. Thanks for reading. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'm a accountant and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2015 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Thai.

No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 15 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The housing market scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

- Four distinct seasons
- The pet-friendliness scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The safety is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
