Is it worth buying in La Vista?

Hey, We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -La Vista sits at 110.3 per 100K. Homes are going for about $244,900 on average. Rent is about $1,267/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $244,900, which is actually reasonable. It's a a small town city with about 16,594 people. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Good schools
- Diverse community
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- Limited nightlife
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions
Any advice would be great. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- The food scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 53, moved here 2 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Old Town and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The cultural scene situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Salt Lake City it's surprisingly good.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The nightlife is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in North area are solid. Kids love it here.
