Top 5 things I love about Lacey

Hey, I'm retired and With a population of 57,088, Lacey is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $427,900, which is pretty steep. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Does this match your experience? It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 48, moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Greenfield and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The cultural scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Old Town for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
