What to expect moving to Lackland AFB?

So, It's a a small town city with about 6,650 people. Rent is about $2,109/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 70--F, so the weather is moderate. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What do you all think? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from San Diego about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The walkability is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
