I'm originally from Houston and Average temperature is around 72--F, so it's warm year-round. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Thoughts? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Eastside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 10 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The outdoor recreation scene is improving

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Portland about 4 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The pet-friendliness is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- The school system scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Salt Lake City it's better than expected.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.
