Hey everyone, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $222,393 in Lafayette. The suburbs are where most families end up. Anyone in a similar situation? The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- The nightlife scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Nashville it's decent.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to New York it's decent.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Used to live on the East side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
