Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Uptown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Tampa about 2 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The housing market situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

Coming from San Francisco, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.
