Remote worker thinking about Lafayette

Hello, Been living here since 2016. Crime rate is something to consider -Lafayette sits at 485.0 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I wrong here? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 12 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The healthcare is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cultural scene scene is solid

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is better than expected in most areas.
