Curious what people think. We have two kids and Rent is about $1,038/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -LaGrange sits at 404.2 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Has anyone dealt with this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Minneapolis about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The pet-friendliness is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 3 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Cedar Grove area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.
