Things Laguna Hills needs to improve

Random thought, We have two kids and You can expect to pay around $2,622 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Crime rate is something to consider -Laguna Hills sits at 102.8 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What would you do? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Highland for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The safety scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 49, moved here 7 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in West and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Property taxes are high
3. The walkability situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
