Anyone work in healthcare in Lake Charles?

Hello, Been living here since 2020. Median household income is $56,864, which feels about average for the area. Household incomes average around $56,864 in Lake Charles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from San Francisco about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.

I work in hospitality here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is excellent. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in finance. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Uptown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Seattle it's solid.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is excellent in most areas.
