Hey, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. Crime rate is something to consider -Lake Charles sits at 524.6 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What are your go-to spots? Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 3 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- The housing market scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Cedar Grove. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Lakewood for 3 years. Moved from Dallas for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Rising rent and home prices. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2023 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Raleigh about 4 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

- Lots of new development happening

The downsides:

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (East) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 53, moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in The Heights and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**

2. Close to major attractions
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The walkability situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**

**Final verdict:**
