I'm originally from Chicago and The median home value here is around $204,000, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -Lake Charles sits at 524.6 per 100K. Household incomes average around $56,864 in Lake Charles. It's a a smaller city city with about 81,679 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What do you all think? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Cedar Grove for 4 years. Moved from Portland for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited shopping options. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.
