Is Lake Charles still affordable?
Hello, I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a smaller city city with about 81,679 people. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 16.2%, which is higher than I expected. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to.

- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited nightlife
- Sprawl everywhere
- Boring for young people
- Poor road conditions
Am I overthinking this? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.
