Thinking about relocating to Lake Charles from Sacramento

Alright, I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 16.2%, which is higher than I expected. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Would love some local perspective. TIA! I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely solid and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Riverside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
