Best restaurants in Lake City?

I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a small town city with about 12,404 people. You can expect to pay around $940 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 17.1%, which is higher than I expected. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 4 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I work in marketing here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is solid. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

No regrets on my end..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 58, moved here 7 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Greenfield and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The school system situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
