So, People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cheers. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much reasonable but now it's excellent.

I've lived in Fairview for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The food scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 48, moved here 1 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Highland and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Good healthcare facilities
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The job market situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The healthcare is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The traffic is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Charlotte about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (The Heights) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Asian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Baltimore about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
