I've been looking at the stats and Lake Forest shows relatively low crime stats. But stats don't always tell the full story. For people who actually live there — do you feel safe? Are there areas to avoid?
I'm especially interested in hearing from women living alone.

Coming from Boston, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are about the same.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is check out the local Facebook groups for neighborhood info. Makes a big difference.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Cedar Hills. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Don't sleep on University District. It's up and coming and still affordable.

If you can afford it, Pine Grove is the best place to live. Period.
