Is Lake Forest a good place to retire?

My wife and I are planning to retire in the next few years. We're considering Lake Forest because of the outdoor activities. Weather is moderate — about 62F average.

Cost of living looks a bit high but manageable. How's the healthcare situation? Any retiree communities?

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Northside and Downtown are perfectly safe.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 8/10.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Don't sleep on Midtown. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

The job market has been improving lately. Several retail companies moved in recently.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 1 years and my experience is very similar.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.
