Been living here since 2013. The median home value here is around $402,500, which is pretty steep. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What do you all think? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 15 years. Moved from Raleigh for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And nightlife can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- The food scene scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2018 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The nightlife is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Houston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor recreation is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
