Worst things about Lake in the Hills nobody talks about

Alright, Poverty rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Tampa it's pretty good.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 15 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a social worker and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

I've been here 15 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is pretty good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in legal. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Old Town) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
