Hi all, We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 0.7%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 31, moved here 4 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The cost of living situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in education. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Charlotte about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 7 years. Moved from Miami for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Dating scene is rough. Limited entertainment options. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2016 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.
