Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $418,800 on average. Poverty rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 9,116 people. Rent is about $1,838/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Any advice would be great. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I've lived in The Heights for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The healthcare scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.
