Is Lake Mohawk a good place to live?

Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $418,800 on average. Poverty rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 9,116 people. Rent is about $1,838/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Any advice would be great. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've lived in The Heights for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The healthcare scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.
