Moving to Lake Mohegan with kids -good idea?

Hi all, I work in engineering and The median home value here is around $483,700, which is pretty steep. With a population of 5,566, Lake Mohegan is a small town. You can expect to pay around $2,685 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Would love some local perspective. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Eastside for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- The food scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
