Worst things about Lake Ronkonkoma nobody talks about

OK so Rent is about $1,906/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Anyone in a similar situation? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Houston about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
