Hi all, Rent is about $1,119/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs?

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor recreation is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Old Town area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cultural scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 11 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the South side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
