OK so I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $1,608 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Any advice would be great. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The safety scene is improving
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Boston it's excellent.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Eastside area are tough. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 53, moved here 14 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in West and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Can feel isolated
3. The school system situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 13 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
