Affordable areas near Lake Station?

OK so Military spouse here. You can expect to pay around $1,115 for rent here. The median home value here is around $124,800, which is actually reasonable. It's a a small town city with about 13,109 people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What would you do? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Bought a house here in 2020 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in tech. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
