Hi all, Homes are going for about $124,800 on average. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Lake Station sits at 180.8 per 100K. Poverty rate is 12.7%, which is around average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. TIA! Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I work in manufacturing here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is decent. No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 9 years. Moved from San Diego for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is tough - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Dating scene is rough. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Austin about 9 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.
