Is Lake Stevens still affordable?

I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $2,189 for rent here. Poverty rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Any help is appreciated. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 6 years. Moved from Miami for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is solid - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Chain restaurants dominate. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 9 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is improving.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
